Student Welfare Council

What is SWC?

The Student Welfare Council (SWC) at Kathmandu University School of Law is the organisational body designed to promote the interests and well-being of the student. It serves as a platform for students to express their needs and concerns and to enhance their academic, cultural, and social experiences. The SWC is instrumental in building a sense of community and facilitating dialogue between students and faculty.

How is SWC Formed?

  1. Election of Class Representatives (CRs): Each class elects a CR to represent their interests in the council. This process ensures that all student voices are considered.
  2. Election of Executive Members: Once CRs are elected, they vote to choose the executive committee members, including positions such as President, Vice President, Secretary, Joint Secretary, and Treasurer. This election is conducted among the CRs.
  3. Election of Club Coordinators: In addition to the executive positions, club coordinators for various areas such as academics, sports, culture, and socio-economic activities are elected from among the CRs.
  4. General Membership: The remaining CRs serve as general members, contributing to the SWC's initiatives and supporting the executive and coordinators in their roles.

Objectives of SWC

  • Representation: To represent the student body in discussions with faculty and administration, ensuring that student concerns are addressed.
  • Development: To provide opportunities for students to develop academically, socially, and personally through organized events and activities.
  • Engagement: To increase student involvement in campus activities, fostering a vibrant and interactive campus community.
  • Support: To offer support and resources to students in need, promoting an inclusive and supportive environment.

Roles and Functions of SWC

  • Advocacy: The SWC advocates for student rights and interests, acting as a mediator between students and the university administration.
  • Event Organization: The council is responsible for organizing a variety of events, including workshops, seminars, cultural festivals, sports competitions, and social gatherings, to enrich the student experience.
  • Club Management: The SWC oversees various student clubs, ensuring they function effectively and contribute to the campus culture.
  • Resource Allocation: The council manages and allocates resources and funds for student activities, ensuring transparency and efficiency.
  • Feedback Collection: Regularly collects feedback from students to understand their needs and improve university services and policies.
