Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Law (BEc-LL.B)

The integrated Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Law (BEc-LL.B) Programme is the second undergraduate programme being offered by Kathmandu University School of Law (KUSOL). This course is offered every February in addition to the existing integrated course on law and management, Bachelor of Business Management & Bachelor of Law (BBM-LL.B).

The legal component gives the same focus and strength in BEc-LL.B as in the BBM-LL.B programme. It meets all requirements of the professional undergraduate degree or Legum Baccalaureus. Students will be trained for taking the bar exam and proving analytical ability in advising or representing clients in the court system as a lawyer. It will meet all the prerequisites necessary for a general legal practitioner. Graduates may also consider careers as law officers, in-house advisers, legal consultants, or court officers, and may work in public administration, real estate management, corporate business, taxation, or consultancy services.

As an integrated course, the BEc-LL.B programme aims to create modern lawyers knowledgeable in both law and economics. The economic analysis of law sharpens legal skills, while understanding production, consumption, and transfer of wealth benefits students working in various sectors.

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:

  • Apply and learn substantive and procedural laws, including drafting pleadings and understanding the legal setup.
  • Identify and analyze economic issues relating to business decisions and policy-making from a legal perspective to make informed decisions.
  • Demonstrate knowledge about local and international laws and socio-political perspectives, implementing research strategies for practical applications.
  • Apply legal principles to ethical issues, evaluate effects, and suggest critical reforms and reevaluations as necessary.

The program provides an overview of legal issues facing the economy and emphasizes both international and Nepali laws. Students will develop skills in legal research, writing, and argument, and integrate qualitative and quantitative data in their assignments. The program aims to prepare students for professional challenges, ethical judgments, and contributions to social justice and equality.
