Kusum Saakha is Associate Professor of Law at Tribhuvan University Law Faculty. Her principal area of teaching and specialization is family law. She is also a member of Law Subject Committee of Kathmandu University School of Law.

Saakha served as Assistant Lecturer at the Institute of Law from between 1976 to 1983, Lecturer of Law from 1983 to 1998 and Associate Lecturer of Law ever since. During 2006-2010, she held the Refugee Law Chair at the Faculty. She gave administrative leadership to Faculty of Law as Assistant Dean between 1995 and 2003. She has been serving as Head of Central Department of Law since May 2012.

Saakha did her Master of Laws from Harvard Law School, Boston. She also has participated in a course on the United States Legal System organized by International Law Institute of Georgetown University in Washington D. C. Her prior academic degrees are Diploma in Law from Tribhuvan University and Bachelor of Arts from Loreto College, North Bengal University, Darjeeling.

Kusum Saakha is involved as expert in non-governmental sectors as well. She is Chairperson of Forum for Women, Law and Development (FWLD). She is also associated with Nepal Law Society, Legal and Environmental Analysis for Development and Research Services (LEADERS, Nepal), the Society for Constitutional and Parliamentary Exercises (SCOPE) and SHTRII SHAKTI. The later is an organization working for the gender equality and sustainable development through empowerment of women.

Saakha has significant research contributions in the area of women and law, the law of the family, citizenship, child rights, and the right to property and gender.
